New Year New Goals

I have never taken part in New Year resolutions especially when it comes to dieting. I have never stuck to a diet and exercise routine. So why should I make a resolution that I know sets me up for failure? I fear failure. So much that I don't even try.

I want to say that this year will be different. I have the tools. I have the knowledge. I even have an elliptical ready and waiting for abuse.

So here is to my very first resolution--

I am obese. I have never really admitted this fact. I jiggle and wiggle just like the jolly old fat man. Unlike St. Nick I am not jolly. I am disappointed in how much I have let myself go. I stepped on the elliptical yesterday and began my journey. Fifteen minutes of huffing and puffing and wiggling and jiggling and calorie burning. I would have liked to go longer but my joints began to hurt. Years of extra weight have taken a toll. My knees are still painful this morning. A visit to the doctor might be in order.

I began researching some healthy morning meals, an area where my bad eating habits surface most often, and discovered the Green Smoothie. I love fruit and vegetables almost as much as a caramel pecan roll. Last night I went to the store and purchased all the fresh and frozen ingredients to make a variety of smoothies. It was more expensive than I am used to spending in the produce department. I need to find (or grow) some more budget friendly options. I have planted a garden in the past. It will not only be a source of healthy fresh and budget friendly food, but I could also get some exercise in while maintaining it.

So I tried a Green Smoothie this morning. It was delicious. (Two out of my three children agreed. My daughter couldn't get over the greenness, but I think she will eventually come around.) Here I am three hours later and I am still satisfied.  I think I will make it a regular occurrence in my diet.

Today’s Green Smoothie:
1-2 bananas
1/2 cup frozen peaches
1/2 cup frozen pineapple
a couple handfuls of spinach
water
